To our community:
Some in our community have asked for guidance on Halloween this year in light of COVID-19. We recommend that state-issued guidance is followed, which can be found here:
https://tinyurl.com/NCHalloweenGuidance
This guidance also categorizes different Halloween activities as lower, moderate, and higher risk.
If you are willing to accept trick-or-treaters on Halloween, you can leave the porch lights on and/or post a sign on your door or mailbox. The state guidance above has ideas on how to more safely give out candy. For example:
- Gently toss candy to trick-or-treaters from 6 feet away
- Use a PVC pipe to pass candy from your doorway to trick-or-treaters 6 feet away
- Place individual pieces of candy spaced out on a table for trick-or-treaters to take
If you prefer that trick-or-treaters do not come to your home, we suggest turning off the porch lights (as is customary) and/or post a sign on your door or mailbox.
Whether you are handing out candy or trick-or-treating, we encourage you and your family to:
- Use masks when approaching a group other than your own
- Social distance – stay at least 6 feet away from other family groups
- Use hand sanitizer after touching potentially shared objects or after sneezing or coughing
We wish you a fun and safe Halloween, however you choose to celebrate!
Happy Halloween!
